How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Open your PDF. Drop a PDF into the box above or click to browse.
- Pick a position. Choose one of six positions: top or bottom, each left, center, or right.
- Add the numbers. Click Add Page Numbers. Every page is stamped with "page / total", e.g. "3 / 12".
- Download. Save the numbered copy. The original file stays unchanged.
Why add page numbers
Page numbers matter whenever a document is printed, discussed, or filed: contracts where every page must be identifiable ("see page 7"), theses and reports, court or authority filings that require numbered pages, or merged documents where the original numbering no longer matches. If you've combined several PDFs with our Merge tool, adding fresh page numbers afterwards gives the bundle one consistent numbering.
How the numbering looks
Numbers are stamped in the format "3 / 12" (current page / total pages) in unobtrusive gray Helvetica at 10 pt — readable but discreet, matching the style of professional documents. The stamp is placed with a safe margin from the page edge, so it survives printing without being cut off.
The numbers are drawn on top of the existing page content. If your document already has text in the chosen corner, simply pick one of the five other positions.

- Numbering always starts at 1 on the first page and covers every page of the document.
- The stamp becomes part of the page content in the downloaded copy and shows in every PDF reader and printout.

Not yet — currently the numbers use Helvetica 10pt in gray. Custom fonts, sizes, and start numbers are planned.

No. The numbering happens in your browser; your document never reaches a server.
